ℹ️About This Game
Colorle is a color-guessing game inspired by Mastermind, the classic codebreaking board game invented in 1970. The goal is to guess a secret 4-color code in 6 tries. After each guess, you receive feedback: filled pegs for correct colors in the correct position, and outline pegs for correct colors in the wrong position. Mastermind became a global hit in the 1970s and has sold over 50 million units worldwide. Colorle brings that same satisfying deductive reasoning to your browser, with a visual color twist.
💡Tips & Strategy
- 1
Your first guess should include as many different colors as possible to maximize information.
- 2
Green pegs are your most valuable clue — lock in correct positions early and build around them.
- 3
Yellow pegs tell you a color exists but is misplaced — try it in every other position systematically.
- 4
Keep a mental note of "confirmed absent" colors — never use a color that's been proven not in the code.
❓FAQ
Q. How is Colorle different from Wordle?
Instead of guessing a word, you're guessing a 4-color sequence. The feedback system (pegs) is from Mastermind — it tells you about color accuracy but not which specific position is right.
Q. Can the same color appear twice in the code?
Yes! The secret code can contain repeating colors, which makes it significantly harder. Keep this in mind if your peg counts don't add up.
Q. How many colors are in the palette?
There are 6 possible colors to choose from, forming a 4-color secret code. Mathematically there are 1,296 possible codes.
